Welcome to the Lehighton Area School District (LASD) Department of Special Services.  Since July 1992, Lehighton Area School District has provided special education programs to our district students along with providing services to other school districts in Carbon County.

    Our Staff consists of

    • 26 special education teachers
    • 35 paraprofessionals,
    • 3  speech/language therapists,
    • 2 behavioral interventionists,
    • District psychologists and a part-time clinical psychologist.

The Lehighton Area School District has expanded programs over the years to meet the growing needs of our students.  We offer the following Special Education Services in either district operated or outside agency programs:

    Learning Support
    Life Skills Support
    Multi-Disabilities Support
    Physical Support
    Autistic Support
    Hearing Impaired Support
    Emotional Support
    Visually Impaired Support
    Speech/Language Support
    Gifted Services

Additionally, the Special Services Department, under Chapter 15-section 504 of the Protected
Handicap Act, may develop an accommodation plan. Handicapped students who do not qualify for special education services, but whose handicapping condition interferes with their educational program, may qualify for a section 504 accommodation plan.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss our special services programs, please feel free to contact us at the Lehighton Area School District Administration Office at 610-377-4490 ext. 1501.
