Threat Assessments
The Lehighton Area School District is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment for all students and staff. As part of this commitment, the District utilizes a comprehensive threat assessment process to identify, evaluate, and respond to potential safety concerns.
Our schools use Navigate360, a nationally recognized safety and prevention platform, to support our threat assessment procedures. This system helps trained school teams gather information, assess risk levels, and determine appropriate interventions when a concern is reported.
Threat assessment is a proactive approach focused on prevention. When a concern is brought forward—whether by a student, staff member, or community member—a multidisciplinary team of trained professionals reviews the situation. This team may include administrators, school counselors, school psychologists, and school police. Their goal is to determine whether a student or situation poses a risk and to provide the appropriate level of support or response.
This process is not about punishment. Instead, it is designed to identify students who may need help and connect them with the necessary resources and supports before a situation escalates.
Reporting Concerns
We encourage students, staff, and families to report concerns if they see or hear something that may indicate a potential threat. Concerns can be reported directly to school staff or administrators.
In addition, the District participates in the Safe2Say Something program, which allows individuals to submit anonymous tips related to safety concerns. Reports made through Safe2Say are reviewed and addressed promptly by school officials and, when necessary, law enforcement.
By working together and addressing concerns early, we can help maintain a safe and caring school environment for everyone.
