School Police Officers and School Security Officers
John Orsulak serves as the Director of Safety and Security and Chief of the School Police Department.
Chief Orsulak completed his Municipal Police Officer training at the Pennsylvania State Police Academy. In addition to his service with the Lehighton Area School District, he also serves as a full-time firefighter.
His training includes Basic and Advanced School Resource Officer certifications, as well as Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED). Chief Orsulak also serves as a Community Anti-Threat Officer with the FBI’s CATO program and is an active member of the district’s Student Assistance Program (SAP) and Threat Assessment Teams.
Chief Orsulak is also an active member of the Carbon County Chiefs of Police Association and the Carbon County School Safety Committee
Chris Ritter graduated from Lehighton High School in 1985. He later attended the Lackawanna Police Academy, graduating in 2002.
Prior to his law enforcement career, Officer Ritter served six years in the U.S. Navy, including a deployment to the Persian Gulf.
Throughout his career, Officer Ritter has held multiple ranks and roles, including Sergeant, Field Training Officer, and Bike Patrol Officer. He also served as a Detective with the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office. Officer Ritter has accumulated 24 years of law enforcement experience.
Upon joining LASD, Officer Ritter completed 40 hours of training through the National School Resource Officer Association
Bejtullah Mehmeti serves as a School Police Officer with LASD. Officer Mehmeti holds an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Pennsylvania State University and is a graduate of the Allentown Police Academy.
Prior to joining the school district, Officer Mehmeti served as a police officer in Allentown. In addition to his duties with LASD, he also serves as a full-time police officer in Nesquehoning and is assigned to the Attorney General’s Drug Task Force.
Officer Mehmeti has completed both Basic and Advanced School Resource Officer training through the National Association of School Resource Officers.
Brian Sook serves as a School Police Officer. Prior to joining LASD, Officer Sook served 25 years with the Pennsylvania State Police. During his career, he held various roles, including Task Force Officer with the Department of Homeland Security Human Trafficking Unit, and most notably spent 14 years in the Vice Unit.
Officer Sook has completed Basic School Resource Officer certification and currently serves as the Middle School Police Officer.
