East Penn Township Ashfield Playground Recreation Board Announces Its America250 Youth Fishing Derby

Now that we received a permit and authorization from the Pennsylvania Game and Boat Commission, the East Penn Township Ashfield Playground Recreation Board announces its America250 Youth Fishing Derby, to be held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Ashfield Playground along Lizard Creek. Children ages 1–15 are invited to participate in a morning of fishing, outdoor fun, and community celebration.

flag raising ceremony will open the event, followed by a brief reflection on the region’s role in the events of May 27, 1776, when nearly nine hundred Northampton County Associators gathered at the Guth Homestead to call for a new government grounded in the consent of the governed. This moment in local history sets the foundation for East Penn Township’s America250 commemorations.

All fish will be stocked at 6:30 AM, and a $10 registration fee will help recover stocking costs. Families are encouraged to arrive early and bring their own fishing gear.

The ceremony will also include a Blessing of the Creek, a kid‑friendly story of Lizard Creek, and the ceremonial ringing of the Derby Bell to officially begin the competition. Prizes will be awarded in multiple fish categories throughout the day.

This Youth Fishing Derby is the first of Four America250 events planned by East Penn Township:

  • May 16, 2026 — Youth Fishing Derby at Ashfield Playground ( EPT Recreation Committee)

  • July 4, 2026 - Community reading of the Declaration of Independence I at Riverview Park to honor its passage (Parks Commission)
